 Happy July 4th Everyone

As we enjoy this long weekend holiday, let us take a moment to reflect on the significance of the Declaration of American Independence in 1776. The last sentence of the declaration reads: And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” Their admirable commitments were intense and showed just how dedicated they were to achieving their goals. Such actions have changed the course of American and world history, prompting freedom seekers in 120 countries to assert their sovereignty and freedom with similar declarations.

The lessons learned from the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 have helped shape our society and government, reminding us that “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” (U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, The Gettysburg Address, November 19, 1863). 

Let us also remember the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women in the many wars fought to protect and preserve our God-given rights to freedom and the pursuit of happiness

Upcoming Events

1.  Fil-Am Friendship Day is July 8th at Mount Trashmore, Virginia Beach. Note: Based on the information we have, it appears that ZAI has yet to be included in the list of participants for the fest event. If you plan on attending, it may be best to blend in with the crowd of curious onlookers and bring your baon in a picnic basket. Stay creative and enjoy the festivities!

2.  The ZAI Family Picnic is on July 30, 2023, at Woodstock Park, Providence Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Potluck: Bring your favorite dish to share. Thank you.

3. Wishing a very Happy Birthday to all those who celebrate their special day in July! May your life be filled with an abundance of love and blessings from the universe!

Here are a few of the scheduled events around us, courtesy of WTKR TV.

Norfolk

  • The Norfolk Tides will have a fireworks show at Harbor Park on July 1st. Tickets are available for purchase by clicking here. Norfolk Tides Tickets – Norfolk Tides Vs. Charlotte Knights.
  • Fireworks Cruise on the American Rover: Downtown Norfolk fireworks can be seen from the water at Waterside. After a quick tour of the Inner Harbor, they'll position the ship to give people an incredible view of the fireworks show. Enjoy music on board with a live acoustic guitarist! Entry is $75.

On the 4th of July, you can let Norfolk Festevents take care of the grilling and head down to Town Point Park with your family and friends. You'll have the chance to enjoy traditional American food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, seafood, buttered corn on the cob, watermelon, and lemonade, all available for purchase. Festival organizers invite you to relax on the lawn while enjoying live entertainment, followed by a fireworks display at 9:30 PM. The event is July 4 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.



Virginia Beach 

1. Celebrate with your friends and family at our annual July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park! Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free; limited on-site parking is $20 (cash only). Food and drinks are available for purchase. Performances by BJ Griffin.

2. Join the 55 Tidewater Winds Concert Band members and the Tidewater Winds Summer Breeze Band for a 4th souvenir! Listen to powerful Americana music before the fireworks, with selections from Chicago, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, ABBA, and all of your traditional patriotic songs that salute our Military and honor our flag! Meet us on 24th Street Stage at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach.

3 new laws in Virginia to impact renters, and landlords starting July 1, 2023

1.  The first law, H.B. 1702   If they own or have more than 10 percent interest in more than four rental units, your landlord must give tenants more notice before raising the rent. Renters will get 60 days' notice to have more time to find other living arrangements if needed.

2. The second law, H.B. 2441 applies to landlords who plan to get out of the rental business to give tenants 60 days of notice that they are no longer renewing leases.  

3. The third law, H.B. 1635 gives tenants seven days to provide notice to the landlord that the property is uninhabitable and is relinquishing the possession of the rental unit.

In the UK, they put Queen Camilla on horseback. She is old and not used to riding a horse. So, every time the horse steps forward, Camilla says Ouch! Ouch!

Charles annoyed: What is the purpose of the ouching?

Camilla sorely replied: Well, it's a painful ecstasy. Like my hips are breaking apart.

Charles coyly asked: Like when we were having sex?

Camilla snapped back: I did not even feel it. (In a British accent.) Na philko kano.

Open-Heart Surgery

A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from a car engine when he spotted a famous heart surgeon standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at this Mercedes.

The Mechanic shouted, “Come on over here a minute.” The surgeon walked over. The mechanic wiped his hands on a rag and said, OK, Doc, look here. I open hearts, take valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish, this baby will purr like a kitten. So how come you get the big bucks when we're doing basically the same work?

The doctor leaned over and whispered, “Try doing it with the engine running.”
