Enrico Adriano Toledo, 57, of Norfolk, VA, passed away on December 31, 2020. 

Born in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines, he was the son of the late Feliciano and Gloria Toledo. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, fun-loving, and family-oriented gentleman. He was loved by everyone who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife of over 24 years, Denise A. Toledo; four brothers, Cris Toledo (Hazel) of Chesapeake, Ric Toledo (Tessie) of San Diego, CA; Adelfo Toledo (Janice) of Jacksonville, FL, and Ricky Toledo (Annamae) of San Diego, CA; sister, Flor Decena of San Diego, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

CPO Pablo “Paul” De la Cruz Alejandrino, USN (Ret.), 87, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on December 30, 2020, in Plantation, FL.

Born in Guimba Nueva Ecija, Philippines, he was the son of the late Sotero and Magdalena Alejandrino. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the U. S. Navy after 26 years of honorable service. He was the owner of Mega Dance and was also a Real Estate Agent at Century 21, from 1988 – 2016. He was a member of the Happy Couples Club.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Alejandrino; children, Loribeth, Grace, Rodney, and Carol Alejandrino; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Alejandrino; granddaughters, Hailey, Molly, and Georgia; grandson, Cruz; and great-grandson, Wyatt.

Solomon Cruz Advincula, Sr., 98, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on December 23, 2020.

Born in the Philippines, he was the son of the late Jose and Paula Advincula. He retired as a Scout from the Philippine Army and was also a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, Solomon was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Advincula, and son, Solomon, Jr. Left to cherish his memory: two daughters, Edna Hanopol (Reynaldo) and Rebecca Phee (Anthony); daughter-in-law, Socorro Advincula; three granddaughters, Sharlene Mendoza, Sherill Beng (Matthew) and Toni-Anne Phee; and seven great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Kincayd, Luke, Ronin, Layla, Claire, and Troy.

Jesus A. Murillo, 82,
 of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on December 8, 2020.

Born in San Narciso, Zambales, Philippines, he was the late Hugo and Librada Murillo's son. He served honorably and retired from the U. S. Navy, and also retired as an HVAC Technician.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Norma N. Murillo; sons, Michael N. Murillo, and wife, Michelle, Jesus N. Murillo, Jr., and wife, Irina, and Joseph N. Murillo and wife, Melissa; sisters, Editha De Jesus and husband, Raymundo, and Gloria Murillo; brothers, Henry Murillo, and wife, Zenaida, Mario Murillo and wife, Lorena, and Rolly Murillo and wife, Loni; and grandchildren, Madeline and Samantha Murillo.

Manuel “Boying” Piega passed away and joined our Lord on December 14, 2020.

Boying grew up in the Philippines immigrated here to the US on June 16, 2003, and became a US citizen in June 2020. He took two years of B.S. Criminology for two years at Feati University.

He is preceded by his beloved parents, Ramiro H. Piega and Adelaida G. Piega, and two brothers, Alberto G. Piega and Carlos G. Piega. He is survived by his wife, Elsa B. Piega; his daughter, Dinah, and son-in-law, Manny; his sons, Michael John and daughter-in-law, Jenny, and Bryan Jason and daughter-in-law, Ella; and grandchildren, Zach, Jeco, and Zeph. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma, and brother-in-law, Chito; 4 brothers, Eduardo, and sister-in-law, Loubna, Alex and sister-in-law, Leny, Ramiro, Jr, and sister-in-law, Joann, and Luis, as well as two sisters- from deceased brothers, Dory and Lanie.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel at 1485 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA on December 17, and December 18, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Catholicin-law Church of St. Mark at 1505 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA on December 19, 2020, at 11:00 am. Boying will be cremated and will be laid to rest at St. Mark’s Columbarium.

Celia Virgen Castaneda, 83, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on December 6, 2020.

Born in Apalit, Pampanga, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Julio and Leonor Luzano and widow of Socrates Castaneda. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Honorio Luzano, Ofelia Vergara, and Carlito Luzano. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Left to cherish her memory: three sons, Ronald Castaneda, Eric Castaneda and wife, Darlene, and Gary Castaneda, all of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Allison, Castaneda, Matthew Castaneda, Andrew Castaneda, Michael Sabol, Sara Dooley, and husband, Matt, and Laura Sabol; great-grandson, Simon Dooley; and sister, Dr. Elvira Bhardwaj.

Joyce Dajon, a loving wife, mother, and friend, peacefully passed into eternal rest at home in Norfolk, VA, on Sunday, November 29, 2020. She was predeceased by her adored husband, Angel C. Dajon.

Joyce was born on October 14, 1934, in Tooele, Utah. Her family was her world. Survivors include daughters Sharon Dajon of Virginia Beach, Christine "Tina" Turner (Kenny) of Chesapeake, Cindy Kight (Kurtis) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; sons Angelo Dajon (Debbie) of Norfolk and Anthony "Tony" Dajon (Kimmy) of Chesapeake; grandchildren Andrew Turner (Deanna), Krissy Turner, Julianna Dajon, Noah Kight, Luke Kight and great-grandchildren Eden Turner, Estelle Turner and Isabella Ingram. 

Joyce was a Philippine Cultural Center of VA Board of Trustees charter member, supporting the Hampton Roads Filipino community's cultural heritage and growth. She was also a dedicated member of Calvary Virginia Beach Church, where she sang in the choir for years and participated in ministries as she was able. 

The family would like to thank the nurses, physicians, and aides of Kindred Hospice of Virginia Beach for their compassionate care and concern for their mother. A graveside service will be held by the family soon. Instead of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org in memory of Joyce Dajon.

Emma G. Panagsagan, 85, of Norfolk, VA, beloved mom, and Lola passed away on November 24, 2020.

Born in Tamalagon, Tangalan Aklan, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Juan and Rosalia Goboy. She was a founding member of the Aklan ATI-ATIHAN USA, Inc. and a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Left to cherish her memory: her husband, Marcelo T. Panagsagan; daughter, Marema P. Manugo and husband, Frank; son, Joseph G. Panagsagan and wife, Lyn; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Megan, Kiana, Jaymi, and Jaden; great-grandson, Austin; and many Goboy family members.

Romulo Aguilo Cator, 80, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on November 10, 2020.

Born in the Philippines, he was the son of the late Norberto and Tomasa Cator. He retired as a Pharmacy Technician from Sentara Rx.

In addition to his parents, Romulo was preceded in death by his wife, Elisa B. Cator. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Ellen Angeles (Randy) and Rowena Cator; grandchildren, Benjamin and Julianna Angeles.

Attorney Abraham S. Urmeneta was born on the 8th of October, 1949 in Gonzaga, Cagayan, Philippines. He passed away on his 71st birthday on October 08, 2020. The third of six children, born to Mariano and Pastora Urmeneta.  

Survived by his wife Maryhelen C. Urmeneta; his son Johann C. Urmeneta and wife Heather; his daughter Helen Marie U Yi and husband Kiu; his grandchildren Gabriel and Beckham Urmeneta, Grayson Harris; his siblings Mariano S. Urmeneta JR, Reuben S. Urmeneta, Mayette U Laracasd, Carl U de Asis, and Emma U Escusa. Preceded to death by daughter Maria Sophia U Harris.

Abraham lived a fruitful and fulfilling life.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 16th, 2020 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. At 11:00am. A viewing will be held an hour before the mass at 10:00 a. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, where Princess Anne Chapel is assisting the family.

Rosita “Rose, Rosie” Fermi Tolentino peacefully returned to her eternal home with our Lord on October 17, 2020, at the age of 72. She retired as a sales associate at the Navy Exchange. Rose was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and auntie.

As the Tolentino family matriarch, Rose was best known for her caring, gentle soul and passion for cooking. She was very fond of hosting family gatherings because having her family together brought her joy. After retirement, she spent her time traveling the world to visit family and long-time friends and tending to a flourishing garden with her dear husband of 37 years, Federico Tolentino.

She is predeceased by a sister, Jemeling Cabanban, and survived by her husband, Federico; two wonderful sons, Justin and wife Janelle Tolentino and James and wife Judith Tolentino; two adoring grandchildren whom she loves with all her heart, Kallan Tolentino and Enzo Tolentino; brother, Benjamin Fermi; nieces, Jennifer Dayao, Emmy Greenhill, and Crystal Vergara; and nephews, John Cabanban and Jimmy Cabanban.

The family will receive friends and family at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home on Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A mass in her honor will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m., with the burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.

Clarita Altares Cachero, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Norfolk, Virginia, on Friday, October 2, 2020.

Clarita was born to Canuto Cabudol and Flora Altares in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, on September 13, 1939. She was married for 55 years to the love of her life, Elpidio N. Cachero. They had five children: Laarni Campbell (husband David), Eric Cachero, Marissa Stone, Gemma Meadows (husband Mark), and John Cachero (wife Rachel). The second of eight children, she was predeceased by her siblings Leonardo and Gloria; she is survived by Mario, Rosafina, Bernardine, and Socorro. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: William, Brandon, Mia, Izzy, Gavin, Zoe, and Ella. She was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to William’s daughter Lily.

Clarita graduated with a B.S.R.N. from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. While raising her family, she also worked tirelessly as a Registered Nurse until her retirement.

Clarita enjoyed regular get-togethers with her large and boisterous family. Introverted, highly intelligent, and delightfully quirky, she was an avid fan of a variety of sports. She loved cheering on her favorite athletes on television with her husband, and often her son Eric, rooting along by her side. She adored orchids as well as the beautiful flowers in her garden which her husband lovingly tended.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel in Norfolk, Virginia. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020, at St. Pius x Catholic Church in Norfolk, Virginia, at 11:00 a.m. When attending the funeral, please arrive by 10:30 a.m. to allow for proper social distancing. Admittance will not be permitted after the service begins. The funeral will also be live-streamed at piusxparish.org.

Domingo Pastelero Bugay, 95, Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on October 1, 2020. Born in Morong, Philippines, Domingo (or aka Danny) made his way to the United States by joining the Navy. During his remarkable 30-year career, he served under several Admirals, managed multiple Bachelor Officer Quarters plus mess halls, and retired honorably as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E9). He then pursued a second career in the Civil Service for 10 years.

Domingo was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Doswell. They were married for 56 years before Mary's passing in 2007. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Delisa Alvis (Shea) and Susie Cameron (Pat); sons Robert Bugay, Richard Bugay (Kristin), and Michael Bugay (Josie). He was preceded in death by his daughter Sabrina Willis (Kevin) and son Danny Lee Bugay. Domingo was lovingly known as APO by his 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends.

Everyone will miss Domingo's entertaining stories about his survival during the Philippines' Japanese occupation, living in the '50s and '60's as a Filipino, and his long Navy career, which included numerous trips by car from the east coast to the west coast with 7 children.

A private family service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, where Domingo will receive a full military honors funeral to include a caisson.

Florante Catanghal Catahan, 70, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. He was a loving husband and father of three children. Florante was born in Calumpit, Bulacan, Philippines, to Augusto Catahan and Felicidad (Catanghal) Catahan. He joined the United States Navy in 1975, then transferred to the Reserves in 1984. Of his military accomplishments, he was duly initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep while a crewman for the U.S.S. Okinawa (LPH-3) on May 2, 1980, and an honored member of the original illustrious navy crew commissioned the U.S.S. Shenandoah (AD-44). He was awarded a commemorative certificate for this commissioning on August 15, 1983. (At the time of the latter event, he was MM1.) He remained steadfast in his commitment to supporting the Navy, working for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a "Tiger Team" member until his retirement on December 23, 2012.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Catahan, daughters Joan and Jeanette, and son Jay. Gloria and Florante were married on June 7, 1976, and shared 44 years of marriage. He is forever loved and will never be forgotten by his friends and family.

Joanie Resolme Loss, 82, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2020, with her son Aaron at her side. Joanie was born in San Felipe, Zambales, the Philippines, to the late Jose and Resurrecion Resolme. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Dale Loss, and her brothers Sofronio and Conrado. Joanie was a passionate and devoted Christian who belonged to many churches over the years. Over the years, she had multiple career paths: factory work, child care, assisted nursing care, and the Virginian Pilot. Joanie's favorite past times were helping others, ministering to others, and gardening.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Aaron (Amanda); grandchildren, Christian, Brandon, and Anthony; brothers, Jimmy and Marcelo; sisters, Anacleta and Nena; and a host of other family and friends.

Rolando D. Ibanez, 73, Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on September 7, 2020. Born in Mariveles Bataan, Philippines, he was the son of the late Silvestre and Sotera Ibanez. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 24 years of honorable service and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 15 years. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife of almost 50 years, Estrella P. Ibanez; son Rollan Ibanez and wife, Alison, of Virginia Beach; daughter, Eileen Whitby; husband, Dennis, of Virginia Beach; two granddaughters, Ava and Alaina; two sisters, Simona Mercado and Milagros Macaraig, of the Philippines; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and the Fesenius Kidney care team in Virginia Beach for the wonderful care.

Irineo "Ernie" Galvez Pancho, 86, went to be with the Lord on September 2, 2020. He was born in Manila, Philippines, to the late Benito and Maria Pancho; he was the last of 16 children. Ernie served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired after 30 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. 

He then joined the Civil Service as a Financial Analyst for more than 15 years. Ernie was an active member of the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and was a founding member of the Fil-Am Organization of the Tidewater area. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Francisca Pancho.

Survived by his 3 sons, Manolito Pancho and his wife Nancy, Bienvenido Pancho and his wife Melanie, and Hubert Pancho and his wife Leslie; 7 grandchildren, Diane, Melissa, Benjamin, Rebecca, Alexander, Andrew, and Katherine; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Ligaya T. Octavo, 86, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, surrounded by her immediate family. She was the daughter of Gregorio and Maria and grew up in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines. To her friends and loved ones, she was called by the nicknames Gaya or Leigh. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She worked as a registered nurse for Sentara Healthcare, working at Sentara Leigh and Norfolk General Hospitals, from 1976 until her retirement in 1996. Following her retirement, Gaya taught nursing for Tidewater Community College and enjoyed mentoring her students very much.

Gaya is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Antonio, her son Joseph Octavo (Connie Heckman), and her daughter Maria Esmay (Ian Esmay). She leaves behind her two grandchildren Michael and Hannah, and many cherished extended family members and friends.

Pedro Gayorgor Noble, 86, of Norfolk, VA, was called home to God the morning of August 30, 2020, surrounded by the loving family he created here in the U.S. He was born in Isabela, Negros Occidental Philippines, to the late Juana and Fortunato Noble. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and honorably retired as a chief petty officer in 1978.

Left to cherish his memories is his devoted wife, Fe, whom he was married to for 56 years; daughter, Annabelle (Tony) and two sons, Pedro (Rachel) and John; grandchildren, Jennifer (Thomas), Andrew (Elyn), Rachel, Michelle, Anthony, Jacob, and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Ian and Noah. 

A special thanks to our friends, neighbors, and Pedro’s healthcare team at DaVita Dialysis Center and Hampton VA Medical Center for all the compassion, kindness, and wonderful care.

It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Pangilinan Agustin Tugbang announces her passing after an illness on Sunday, August 30, 2020. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband, children, grandkids, siblings, relatives, and friends.

Augusto Umale Sumulong was born on August 31, 1930, in Pagsanjan, Laguna, Philippines, and passed away on November 3, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family in Virginia Beach.
Augusto was a proud service member of the United States Navy and served his country for 30 years, retiring as a Master Chief/E-9. He was stationed on the USS Nimitz, served during Operation Eagle Claw in the Persian Gulf and Iran, and retired from the Oceana Naval Base. Augusto was also one of the co-founders of the Batangas Association of Hampton Roads. Outside of his military career, Augusto was equally active investing time with his family, fishing, gardening, and cooking.

Augusto leaves to cherish his memory, his present wife, Elvira F. Sumulong; his sons, Arthur and John (Kim); his granddaughters, Kristina, Ashley, and Courtney; his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Caydence, and Addalynne.

Augusto is predeceased and will be rejoined in heaven with his father, Gonzalo Rivera Sumulong; his mother, Josefa Flores Sumulong; and his past wife, Aida "Bessie" Sumulong.

The family will receive friends for visitation, held on November 10, 2020, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Rodolfo Almuite Antolin, Jr., 54, passed away on August 23, 2020. Rodolfo was born in the Philippines to Margarita and the late Rodolfo Sr. He worked as a Medical Technologist at Laboratory Corporation of America and held bachelor’s degrees in Medical Technology and Cytotechnology and a master’s degree in Laboratory Sciences from Old Dominion University. 

As he was known, Rudy was an avid gardener, painter, and above all, musician. He was heavily involved with the Filipino-American community in Hampton Roads, often offering his musical talents for community events, masses, and celebrations. Rudy was also one of the volunteer instructors for the Philippine Rondalla Ensemble of Virginia (PREVa).

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years, Trinidad Chacon Antolin; son, Michael and his girlfriend Nikka; daughters, Teresa and Alyssa; mother, Margarita; brother, Virgilio; sister, Teresita and her husband Rolando; brother Ronald and his wife Cheryl; nieces and nephews, Kurt, Sean and his wife Brandy, Abigail, Simone, and Saige; and great-niece and nephew, Addison and Grayson. Rodolfo will be privately laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Maria Lara Reyes, 87, Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on August 22, 2020. Born in the Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Juana Lara. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Loreto C. Reyes, and son, Efren Reyes.

Dante Fernandez Fontimayor, 67, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2020Dante retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and was born in San Narciso, Zambales, Philippines, to the late Alejo "Alex" Rosagaran Fontimayor and Regina Fernandez Fontimayor.

Dante is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Veronica "Ving" Latonio Fontimayor, and children: Dan Alex L. Fontimayor; Vincent L. Fontimayor and wife Betsy Liberty Fontimayor; Kyle L. Fontimayor, and his fiancé Bianca Isabel Salvador Bataclan.

Elvira “Elvie” Roxas Soriano, daughter of Jose & Virginia Roxas, was born on Dec. 26, 1949, in Caloocan City, P.I., and died on May 29, 2020, in Virginia Beach, VA at age 70.

Survived by her husband, Daniel Soriano; and children, Romel Soriano, Jerry, and his spouse, Meredith Soriano, and Dennis and his spouse, Janice Soriano. Her surviving siblings are Imelda Roxas in the P. I. and Erlinda Go in Taiwan. She was a loving grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Adrianna, Alyssa, Milan, Supreme, and Canon.

Elvira has been a loyal employee at Swim Ways since 1979-2018. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Pokeno with her friends. She was an honorary member of the Batangas association and loved being surrounded by friends and her family members.

Alberto "Boyet" Aban Abille67, of Virginia Beach, lost his battle with liver cancer on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Boyet was born in San Felipe, Zambales, Philippines. Epitacio Azur Arganza, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 16, 2020, at his Virginia Beach home with his cherished wife, Erlinda, by his side. He was fondly known as “Peping” or “Pepe” to friends and family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, an adoring grandfather, and a loyal friend.

Pepe was born on May 23, 1934, in Concordia, a small town in the southern Batangas province of Alitagtag, Philippines. Preceding his death are his parents, Patricio Arganza & Cornelia Azur, his three brothers: Mamerto, Eugenio, & Juanito, and one sister, Fausta A. De Castro.

Pepe is the beloved husband of 58 years to Erlinda (Fajardo). He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Epitacio; Girlyn (Arganza) and Bernie Cachaper; Neal and Alicia (Dixon), and, Kevin and Vivian (Canlas). He was the proud grandfather to two granddaughters and three grandsons: Camden Elise, Karis Olivia, Tristan Xavier, Zander Neal, and Lukas Antonio. He was also a supportive uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews in the U.S. and the Philippines.

Pepe proudly served 22 years in the United States Navy. He retired honorably in 1982 as a Senior Chief and was a Vietnam War veteran. He continued to work as a civilian for the military at the Oceana Naval Base in Virginia Beach, VA until retirement. During his military and civil service career, Pepe was a successful real estate investor. As a self-starter and self-made man, he took this newfound business passion and established a small business. His children will continue to maintain the legacy that he proudly built.

Always busy, Pepe loved gardening, his daily (very) early morning coffee, and capping off his night watching the WWE. He was also a faithful parishioner at St. Luke’s Catholic Church and a founding member of the Hampton Roads Batangas Association. Although his failing health kept him home these last two years, his caregivers, family, and friends were blessed with his indomitable spirit and sense of humor until the end.

Pepe’s life will be honored with a viewing on Monday, May 25, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home at 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, 23456. There will be a prayer at 6 p.m. and a few words of remembrance from the family. Florentino Deguzman Singson Jr., 75, a retired Chief Hospital Corpsman, distinguished businessman, amateur fisherman, and beloved husband and father, was born November 15, 1955, in Nabaccayan, Gattaran, Cagayan, located in the Northern Philippine Islands. Lovingly known as “Bong” by his close family and friends, Florentino passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020, after a long and bravely-fought fight against COVID-19.

He married the love of his life, Flory, in 1983. They shared more than thirty beautiful years and were blessed with three beautiful and caring daughters Paula, Florina, and Francine.

Bong is survived by his siblings Joel, Manny, Jane, Russell, Lyndon, and his adopted sisters Bea, Nanette, and Carmela.

Manuel Corcuera Marquez of Virginia Beach died at the age of 74 early in the morning, April 30, 2020, in the comfort and company of his family at the home of his long-time partner and friend, Jeanie Wendt.

A native of the Philippines, Manny was born in Los Banos, Laguna on August 6, 1945. At the age of 22, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After several assignments both in the U.S. and abroad, he settled with his family in Virginia Beach, taking up supply and accounting duties with various squadrons and departments outside NAS Oceana and Naval Station Norfolk. He served diligently and honorably for 30 years, rising to the rank of master chief petty officer, and at one point holding the position of command master chief with VAW-126 (SEAHAWKS).

He was an avid tennis player and spent innumerable days playing and socializing with his friends at the tennis courts at JEB Little Creek. He also enjoyed traveling and frequently visited his children and grandchildren in New England and California.

Along with Ms. Wendt and her family, he is survived by his three children, Ramon (Meghan) Marquez, Christina (Christopher) Hale, and Diana (Joshua) Peters. He was notably very fond of his six grandchildren: Graciela (13), Colette (13), Mateo (11), Adrian (8), Malcolm (5), and Leander (3).

Norma “Inday Ma” Doronila Bariso, RN, BSHS, went to the Lord peacefully, just short of her 80th birthday on April 24th, 2020, after battling cancer for almost 3 years.

She was born on July 9, 1940, in Iloilo, Philippines to Carlos & Remedios Doronila. She graduated from nursing school in the Philippines with an Associate Degree in Business Administration and a B.S. in Health Sciences from ODU. She began her nursing career in Ontario, Canada, worked in Boston, and worked as an ICU Registered Nurse at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center for 11 years.

Norma was a successful entrepreneur as Co-founder and President of Best and Dependable Nursing Care & Home Health from 1988-2000. She was also a strong member of the Philippine Nurses Association of America and the Philippine Nurses Association of Hampton Roads for 38 years, served as President in 1986, received the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award in 1994, and was the first recipient of the Most Outstanding Member Award in 1995.

Norma was active with St John the Apostle Catholic Church and charitable interests throughout the Hampton Roads community and the Philippines.

Norma is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gener Reyes Bariso of Imus, Cavite, Philippines; daughter Melanie Lynn, son-in-law Emil Agustin and granddaughter Mariana; and her son, Gerard Ray, and daughter-in-law Melinda and granddaughters Kira and Emma; and a large, loving and supportive extended family in Hampton Roads and the U.S.

A Mass of the Resurrection and a “Celebration of Norma” will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church soon, once social gatherings are deemed safe for everyone. Domingo Ringor Betiong, 72, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on April 11, 2020.
Born in Camiling, Philippines, he was the son of the late Alfonso J. Betiong, Sr., and Maria Agustin Ringor Betiong. In the Philippines, he retired from civil service for the U.S. Embassy (GS-12). 
Additionally, he retired as a top-rated Store Manager from 7-Eleven. He attended St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and was a member of the United Ilocano Association of Tidewater.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years, Carmen L. Betiong; three sons, Don Stephen L. Betiong and wife, Deborah, Alfonso Leybag Betiong, III, and Karl Dominique L. Lolita was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, serving as an usher. She enjoyed shopping and cooking. She opened her home to all her family and loved her grandchildren immensely.

Romer Ian D. Armas, 40, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away April 6, 2020.

Born in Manila, the Philippines on February 9, 1980, he was the son of Romeo Armas and Merlyna Dollete. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.

Romer or Rome, as they call him at work, is remembered as quiet but super smart. He is currently working as Chief Technology Officer at Crofton Diving. Ian, as remembered by their family, is a very loving son to his mom and a loving brother. He is always there to assist. He is the “man of the house.” He enjoyed working on cars in his free time and airsoft.

MSCM Alfredo L. “Fred” Lasmarias, USN (Retired), 78, of Virginia Beach, VA, peacefully returned to its creator on April 3, 2020.

Born on July 27, 1941, in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. In the Philippines, he graduated Elementary and High School at St. Augustine School in Tagudin and attended college for Engineering at Baguio Colleges in Baguio City, Philippines. In 1963, he was recruited to the United States Navy at which he served for 30 years.

Fred had a passion for fishing and cooking (roast turkey and steak kabobs for special occasions). He loved to travel, dance, and karaoke with friends as well as babysit his grandkids. He is known for his infectious smile and compassionate spirit. He is an active member of Holy Family Parish.

He is predeceased by his parents, Alberto and Concepcion; wife, Cynthia Beltran Lasmarias; sister, Concessa; brother, Edwardo. He is survived by sons Danilo and Derrick and daughter-in-law, Krysta; grandchildren, Noah Nalani and Gabriela; brothers Rene, Johnny, and Joseph; sisters, Anita and Paulita. He re-married to Margie Zamora Lardizabal of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and she was at his bedside at the time of death.

Cynthia “Chi” Mendoza, 68, of Virginia Beach, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2020, at Sentara Leigh Hospital.

A native of Lucena City, Philippines, Cynthia studied nursing at Quezon Memorial Hospital and obtained her Bachelor’s degree at Manila Central University. She came to the United States in 1973 and became a nurse at Leigh Memorial Hospital (now Sentara Leigh Hospital), where she was known as “Minnie” and worked for over 35 years. Even in her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the same hospital, greeting visitors at the information desk. She was an active member of the Catholic Church of Saint Mark. She loved to travel, especially on cruise liners, which allowed her to visit new cities and cultures. She continued her passion for ballroom dancing, which she started with her late husband, Fidel. Her other hobbies included cooking, hot yoga, and most of all shopping. Her vibrant personality, sense of style, generosity, and caring nature will be missed by so many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fidel Mendoza, and her mother, Sarah G. Casaol. Edgar Manglicmot Reyes, 49, passed away on March 24, 2020. He was born in Olongapo City, Zambales, the Philippines to Jorge & Julita on June 10, 1970.

Edgar went to San Felipe Elementary School (Central West) and graduated with honors at St. Columban High School in San Felipe, Zambales. He was a member of San Roque Parish Church where he served as an altar server. Edgar attended college at Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila, the Philippines where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After passing the electrical engineering licensure exam, he had several jobs before joining the Hilmar family where numerous buildings in Manila were built under his supervision. With great pride, he took part in helping to build the Mall of Asia. Later, he migrated to America and worked in M&G Electronics in the engineering department and after working as an electrical design engineer for Bauer Compressors for over 12 years.
He was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Edgar was a loving husband, father, son, big brother, and uncle. He had a big heart and devoted his time to his 3 precious little girls whom he adored very much. Edgar was the jack of all trades, a problem solver, and a diligent worker who was known for getting the job done. Edgar was kind and loving and from the kindness of his heart, he made sure that everyone was happy and felt loved, which in turn gave him great satisfaction. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Edgar is survived by his loving wife, Diona; their three children, Eireen, Elise, and Erzsi; his parents; his siblings, Julius (Rhoda) and Jolette (Dwayne); nieces and nephews, Yanni, Bodee, Mika, Jae Jae, and DJ; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roderick.

The family will receive friends at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30amm. Alberto Feliciano Cruz, 75,
of Virginia Beach, VA passed away the morning of March 16, 2020.

Alberto was born on July 4, 1944, in Orion, Bataan, Philippines. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964 and served as a Machinery Repairman for 26 years. In 2016, at the age of 72, Alberto retired a second time, from a career in civil service at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

Alberto was preceded in death by his former wife, Rosalinda Castro Cruz. He is survived by his long-term partner Aurora Devera of Virginia Beach, VA; son Alberto C. Cruz and wife Susana, of San Diego, CA; daughter Jennifer Andreoni and husband Sean of Maui, HI; daughter Maria Theresa Cruz of Virginia Beach, VA; son Malcholm Cruz and wife Janet of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Louie, Aliza, Diana, Dillon, Anthony and Jordan; and sisters Maria de Guzman, Gloria Santos, Yolanda Cruz and Carolina Generillo of Orion, Bataan, Philippines.

Zenaida D. Palompo, 78, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on March 14, 2020.

Born in the Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Bartolome and Soledad Dampitan. She was a member of the Catholic Church of Saint Mark.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Clodualdo “Steve” Palompo; two sons, Ralph Palompo and wife, Rose, of Alexandria, VA; and Dean Palompo of San Francisco, CA; a sister, Aurora Lejano of Fremont, CA; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Robyn Palompo of Alexandria; along with extended family and friends.

Edgardo E. Senga, 80, of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2020.

Edgardo proudly served in the US Navy for over 20 years. After his retirement, he continued with civil service by working more than twenty years at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Edgardo was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Mila Cruz-Senga, and their son, Edgar. He will also be remembered by many extended family members in California, Australia, and the Philippines.

There will be a visitation held on Monday, March 9th, and Tuesday, March 10th from 6 to 9 pm at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel with a wake service at 7 pm on Tuesday. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Albert G. Romeo Gonzales Tamoria, 83, of Norfolk, VA, passed away at his home on January 12, 2020.

Born in Iba, Zambales, Philippines, he was the son of the late Simeon and Victoria Gonzales. He retired honorably from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 27 years of service.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 53 years, Alice Tamoria; son, Romeo Tamoria, Jr., step-children James Panganiban and Alicea Sanders; granddaughters, Kailie N. Gratis, Geannette S. Williams, and Elizabeth Sanders Jones; great-grandsons, Andrew, Christopher, Trey, and Shawn; brothers, Simeon, Jr., Eduardo, Amor, Edgardo, and Israel; sisters, Alegria, Seriedad Escobar, and Guia Kalaw; 34 nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

The Rev. Fr Pantaleon “Leo” Manalo passed away after a short illness at the Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital in Norfolk, VA on January 9, 2020, surrounded in his final 24 hours by friends.

Leo was born on July 27, 1936, the only child of Juan Manalo and Segundina Ocampo who both preceded him in death. He entered the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary in Apalit, Pampanga where he finished High School and the first year of college before moving to the San Carlos Seminary in Guadalupe, Rizal for his final 3 years of Philosophy and 4 years of Theology. He was ordained on December 21st, 1963 in Santa Cruz, Lubao, Pampanga. He served as a Priest in the Philippines from 1963 – 1971 then was sent on scholarship to the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy until 1972 when he moved to Yonkers, New York to become the Parochial Vicar at the Church of St. Dennis. He earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University in New York in 1977 and worked in social work as a Chaplain in New York in 1979. Bishop Walter Sullivan offered him the Chaplaincy at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia and DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, and the job of a moderator of the Tidewater Council for Filipino Ministry in the same year. He was the founder of the San Lorenzo Spiritual Center on Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia, a title and accomplishment of which he was most proud. The Hampton Roads Filipino-American faith community became the lucky recipient of his talents and compassion until his death.

He is predeceased by his parents and his dear friend, Bishop Walter Sullivan, and his pet dogs: Fluffy, Halley, Comet, Kachin, and Achilles. Left to mourn his passing are his dogs Joseph and Batman; his cousin: Angelina Uhlemann (Germany), nieces: Thelma Garcia Drost and children Mirjam & Rene (Germany), Puri David Barry and children Annalynn, Jon Patric,k and Abigail (California), Blesilda Maglalang and daughter Fritzie Ocampo (Las Vegas), Puring Esguerra, Divina Ocampo, Celia Garcia, friends: Charles and Elizabeth Mancuso, his longtime caregivers: Sylvia & Rey Sanchez, Zeny Alonso, Resty Serrano, Sister Grace Malonzo and members of the Pampango Language Club (PLC), the Knights of Columbus San Lorenzo Council 12378 and the Ladies Auxiliary, the Quezonian of Hampton Roads Inc., the Devotees of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the Cebuano Speaking Association of Tidewater (CSAT), and members of other various groups and organizations in Hampton Roads.

Jason Halog Milo, of Virginia Beach, passed away on December 22, 2019, with his son and other family members at his side.

He was born on September 16, 1956, in Quezon City, Philippines, and was the son of the late Atty. Juan G. Milo and Dolores H. Milo. Jason also joins his two late children, Jocelyn and Jeffrey, for eternal rest.

Jason, fondly nicknamed “Atong” by his family and friends, was a graduate of Maritime Engineering from the Philippine College of Arts and Trades (PCAT) in Manila, Philippines. After graduating, he was employed by the former Sulpicio Lines, Inc. in Manila and later traveled abroad to work for a hydropower company in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In 1985, Atong immigrated to the United States and had a successful 13-year career as a Supply Specialist at STIHL, Inc. in Virginia Beach.

Atong was a caring dad to his son, Jeremiah, and a loving brother to his nine siblings. To his many friends, Atong will be remembered as a hardworking man who was the comedian and life of the party. He will also be missed by the many members of his extended family.

The family will receive visitors at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel, at 3445 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach on Friday, December 27, and Saturday, December 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel, on Monday, December 30, at 10 a.m. with burials to follow at Colonial Grove Memorial Park.
